Alexander Zverev makes Davis Cup U-turn following Acapulco disqualification

BERLIN: Alexander Zverev has switched his choice not to play in the Davis Cup, with the world number three currently set to include for Germany against Brazil to vindicate himself after his exclusion from Acapulco.

The 24-year-old Olympic boss was kicked out of the Mexico occasion last week after over and over crushing his racquet against the umpire's seat and releasing a profane tirade.

He was fined $40,000 by the ATP and the German conceded his conduct was "unsatisfactory".

He has now picked to play for Germany against Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on March 4/5.

"We are glad that Alexander will be involved," said Germany's Davis Cup chief Michael Kohlmann. "His conduct in Acapulco was without question unsatisfactory and wrong.

Alexander himself perceived that and apologized for it. We currently need to help him collectively to get past this troublesome stage."

Zverev last played for Germany in the Davis Cup in 2019.

Toward the end of last year, he said he wouldn't play in the opposition in its present configuration.

After his U-turn, Kohlmann dropped Daniel Altmaier from the Germany crew.
