 Basketball: Afghan star makes debut in Spain after leaving Kabul


BILBAO (REUTERS) - The skipper of the Afghan ladies' wheelchair ball group made her introduction for her new Spanish side on Saturday (Oct 2) to cheers and commendation a little more than a month subsequent to escaping Kabul when the Taliban came to control. 

Nilofar Bayat, 28, and her significant other Ramesh Naik Zai, 27, were offered the opportunity to play for Bidaideak Bilbao BSR, a wheelchair ball group in the northern city of Bilbao. 

They showed up in Madrid from Kabul on Aug 20 on a trip with 100 different exiles on account of endeavors by the Spanish government and the Spanish Basketball Federation. 

"I have never had this much thoughtfulness and this much regard. At the point when I perceived how inviting they are... I felt that here can be my subsequent home, I can be extremely cheerful here," Bayat, 28, told Reuters after the game. 

It was whenever Bayat first had played in a blended group. On Saturday, she was the main lady playing for Bidaideak Bilbao BSR in the side's well disposed match against Fundacion Vital Zuzenak. 

"It was extremely new for me, in Afghanistan dislike this," she said. "The groups are extremely isolated and we don't play together, however it was exceptionally decent."
