Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen says he will likely play at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as he proceeds with his recuperation from the heart failure he endured at Euro 2020 in June.

The 29-year-old was told he was unable to play for Inter Milan in Italy in the wake of being fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator - a sort of pacemaker.

"I need to play. That has been my outlook from the start," Eriksen said.

"It's an objective, a fantasy," he added.

Addressing Danish telecaster DR, he said: "Regardless of whether I'll be picked is something else. I'm certain I can return since I don't feel any unique. Actually, I'm back in top shape.

"[The World Cup has] been my objective it's still some time away, so up to that point I'm simply going to play football and demonstrate that I'm once again at a similar level.

"My fantasy is to rejoin the public group and play at Parken [Denmark's home stadium] again and demonstrate that it was a one-clock and that it will not reoccur. I need to demonstrate I've continued on and that I can play in the public group once more."

'Britain return would want to get back home'

Entomb Milan and Eriksen consented to drop his agreement in December and the player has since begun preparing alone in Denmark.

A re-visitation of England for the previous Tottenham midfielder "would totally want to return home", the player's representative has said.

"Playing in England again would totally want to get back home for Chris and his family," Martin Schoots 

"Christian has been dealt with astoundingly well by the British public, as a result of his top football abilities, yet additionally in view of his human qualities, his humility and benevolence."

Eriksen imploded during Denmark's match against Finland at Euro 2020.

He joined Inter in 2020 after seven years in the Premier League with Spurs and, since leaving the Serie A club, has been preparing at Odense Boldklub, the Danish club he addressed as a teen.

In his first online media post since 8 June, Eriksen imparted a video of a meeting to Danish TV on his Twitter on Tuesday.
