The 28-year-old Austrian, who has not played since experiencing the injury at the Mallorca Open in June, couldn't shield his US Open title this year.

He had taken off to No.3 on the planet until the injury stopped his advancement and has since consigned him to No.15.

"I will miss the Australian fans, yet I will be back (there) in 2023," he composed on Twitter.

"We accept this is the best choice to have a decent re-visitation of rivalry.

"For the second I will stay in Austria for a couple of more days and afterward head to rehearse outside and prepare for my first occasion of the period."

Thiem was beaten in the fourth round of the 2021 Australian Open by Grigor Dimitrov, while last year he was beaten in five sets in the last by Novak Djokovic.

He will begin his 2022 season in South America at the Cordoba Open in Argentina toward the finish of January.

Fans were left crushed by the news, sending their kindly words to Thiem via web-based media.

"Not an astonishment but rather miserable to see Dominic Thiem pull out from Aus Open," tweeted Zenia D'cunha.

"To think his wellness issues began before long he made his Grand Slam leap forward... Difficult stretches for the one-gave strike young men club."
