 Women’s Tennis competes in ITA Regionals


GENEVA, N.Y. - The RIT ladies' tennis crew contended in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships this previous end of the week on the HWS Tennis Center courts of William Smith College, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 18-19). 


First year recruit Gabby Donohue (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley), sophomore Jackie Drozd (Richboro, PA/The Hun School), and senior Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) contended in the principle singles draw with every one of the three falling. Donohue lost to New York University's Jimena Menendez, 6-1, 6-0. Drozd was edged by NYU's Karina Jensrud, 6-4, 6-4. Auble was crushed by the College of New Jersey's Charlotte Roarty, 6-2, 6-2. 


In pairs activity, Donohue and Drozd tumbled to Hamilton's Hannah Apsey and Lauren Holtzman, 8-0. 


In encouragement and display matches, Auble beat New Jersy City's Mila Gligorov, 8-7 (9-7). Junior Mackenzie Wade (Tyler, TX/Ouachita Baptist) dropped to New Jersey City's Giada Zorzan, 8-2. Drozd tumbled to Union's Sophie Brown, 8-4, and to TCNJ's Chloe Hansen, 8-1. 


64 of the area's best singles players and 32 of the top duplicates groups, addressing 16 foundations took an interest in the yearly title. While there was not an authority encouragement draw, players were offered a chance to play extra matches against different players in the competition field. 


"It was an extraordinary encounter for our new players. They know what they need to deal with and where to go from here," RIT head ladies' mentor Raphaela Jann said. 


The ladies' tennis crew wraps up the fall part of its 2021-22 season this end of the week, Sept. 25-26, at the St. Lawrence Invitational in Canton.
